Washington State Association of Activity Professionals (WSAAP) Scholarship Program

The purpose for the scholarship program is to offer educational opportunities to WSAAP members currently employed in the delivery of activity service programming, primarily in the older adult physical or mentally disabled population.  The program is for those wishing to complete their education for future or renewed certification with our National Certification Council of Activity Professionals (NCCAP).

The scholarship is to be used towards NCCAP MEPAP I & II course conducted by an approved instructor or any college offering courses based on NCCAP Body of Knowledge.   Funds are to be submitted to the school of the applicant’s choice financial office. For academic learning or the applicant applying for continuing education must up front the conference, seminar or workshop fee and will then be reimbursed on submittance of receipt of payment to WSAAP treasurer.

All applicants must be a current member of WSAAP for 1 year and actively involved with a local chapter. and must have at least 2 years experience as an activity professional or recreation therapy field showing a commitment to furthering their education and career in the field.  Applicants are eligible for the scholarship once every 3 years.

Policies and Procedures for Continuing Education Scholarship

Purpose
The purpose of the scholarship program is to offer educational opportunities to persons currently employed in the delivery of Activity service programming, primarily in the older adult and physically or mentally disabled population, who wish to complete their education.  The scholarship intent is to help the individual student who is working toward NCCAP certification as an Activity Professional.

The scholarship is to be used toward NCCAP MEPAP 2nd Edition conducted by an approved instructor or any college courses based on the NCCAP Body of Knowledge. Funds are to be submitted to the financial office of the school chosen by the applicant.  Applicant must be a current member of WSAAP and active in a local chapter. Applicants must have at least 2 years experience in the Activity Professional or Recreation Therapy field showing a commitment to furthering the education and career in this field.  Applicants are eligible for this scholarship only once

Criteria

  1. Applicants must be a member of WSAAP for at least 3 consecutive years and certified for at least 2 years. Maintain an active membership in a local WSAAP chapter within their region. Should the applicant become unemployed prior to their certification renewal they are still eligible to apply for this scholarship?
  2. To be eligible, applicants need to meet NCCAP (National Certification Council for Activity Professionals) Continuing Education Standards required during the two years following their current certification based on their level of certification. (AAC 20 hours, ADC or ADPC 30 hours, or ACC 40 hours). (See Body of Knowledge for applicable continuing education course of study).

Reimbursement will be made to the amount of the conference or education fee not to exceed $250.00. Applicants need to submit a copy of certificate of completion and receipt of payment in order to receive reimbursement.

Procedures

Perspective students will submit a completed application face sheet and a letter addressing qualifications, your interest, and involvement in the activity profession. And the reasons why you should be considered for this scholarship.

Submit a letter from your current supervisor or (if unemployed your most recent supervisor) describing your commitment to the activity profession and a portfolio of a special program or project designed by you; including the program outcome.

Provide two letters of support that specifically address the contributions you have made   toward your goals to become certified.

A transcript from any college you have attended. (2 or 4-year College if applicable), please provide a letter of recommendation supporting your application and course of study from the school of your choice.  Review the information regarding required education.  AAC or ADC tracks do not require a degree.

Deadline:  Due Six Months Prior to enrollment.  Mail application to Education Committee 1210 Fir Park Drive S.E. Olympia WA. 98503.  The WSAAP Education and Executive Committee will review the application and notify you by mail within 4 weeks of receiving the application.
